Gr33n Africa is a non-profit organization established to promote Section 24 of the South African Bill of rights which states,” Everyone has the right: (a) to an environment that is not harmful to their health or well-being; and (b) to have the environment protected, for the benefit of present and future generations, through reasonable legislative and other measures that: (i) prevent pollution and ecological degradation; (ii) promote conservation; and (iii) secure ecologically sustainable development and use of natural resources while promoting justifiable economic and social development.
South Africa’s apartheid history has shaped the unequal distribution of the consumption of its natural resources. The majority of communities who do not have access to basic services such as clean water, electricity and proper waste management infrastructure are black. It is also well documented that rural communities are under serviced.

To educate and empower communities about their environmental rights and promote the adherence and compliance to South Africa’s environmental legislation.
To EDUCATE communities on the effects of Poor Waste Disposal and Pollution on their health, well-being and the environment.
To EMPOWER communities to make Sustainable Consumption and Waste Management choices.
To EDUCATE communities on the economic opportunities that can stem from Sustainable Waste Management.
To EMPOWER communities to hold non-complaint, Waste Management Infrastructure and practices to account.
Development and implement education and awareness programs.
Partner with various stakeholders in changing attitudes and behavious around waste management and promoting waste separation at source.
We research and publish compliance information to promote access to information and to foster greater compliance.
Engage with national, provincial and local government on the compliance of waste disposal and treatment infrastructure; and
Advocate and lobby government on policy direction.
To live sustainably means having the knowledge and skills to use the earth’s resources carefully and not waste and destroy the environment. This will ensure that our children and their children can use these resources to live happy and healthy lives.

Masopha Moshoeshoe is a Green Economy expert with a passion for waste management. He holds a BCom degree from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Post-graduate Diploma in General Management and a MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science. Masopha believes that informed and empowered communities are a natural counterbalance to environmental degradation and pollution by public and private sector entities. He also believes that Informed and empowered communities have the responsibility to do better and the ability to demand the same of others.
